Programme: ERA_16_18_web_TB_AVCR.doc ERA_Programme.doc (338,50 KB)

The objective of the ERA2009 conference is to look at the Role of Basic Research in the Process of Structuring the European Research Area (ERA). The event is being organized by the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, under the auspices of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The formation of the ERA is a political goal draw-up by the European Union at the beginning of the XXI century. The vision is being refined periodically through various analysis and/or recommendations, e.g. the Commission's Green Paper on "The ERA: New Perspectives" or Council conclusions. The recently launched Ljubljana Process is supported by five initiatives underpinning the development of the ERA, which were launched in 2008. They concern researchers' careers and mobility, research infrastructures, knowledge sharing, joint programming and international science and technology cooperation. These initiatives can contribute to setting-up durable partnerships with Member States and stakeholders to jointly develop the ERA in their specific areas of focus. Moreover, at the end of 2008, the paper prepared under the French Presidency, "Vision 2020 for the ERA", underlined the importance of the effective creation of an area of the freedom and exchange for researchers and therefore to contribute to the "Europe without barriers".

The ERA2009 conference will contribute to the discussion on these new perspectives for the European Research Area. The target participants are from the European and international communities of research stakeholders, research performing organizations, science foundations, European Commission and other relevant policy makers. The scientific community and relevant policy makers of all the EU member states as well as of the associated states are invited to come into the debate.

The participants of the event are highly ranked, all of them key stakeholders both from the European and international scientific community - research performing organizations, universities, science foundations, European Commission, ministries and other relevant policy makers, experts and scientists.

The programme is divided into 5 sessions all of the respecting last developments in ERA issue - Vision 2020, Innovation, Coordination of Research, Viewpoint of Research Organisation and International Viewpoint.
