Youth policy, in short, means support for youth. The active involvement of youth in society and public life, the development of the full potential of young people and their successful entry into adulthood and the labour market is a fundamental prerequisite not only for the quality of life of the youth themselves, but also for the general social cohesion and economic prosperity of society and the state, including the relationship of youth to public institutions and their trust in the democratic system of governance.
Youth policy thus encompasses a large number of topics that are the responsibility of various ministries, such as
employment support, career counselling, wellbeing including mental health, opportunities for young people in rural
areas, volunteering, crime prevention, housing and many, many other topics.
Youth themselves should be involved in the development of youth policy. The Youth Panel was established at the
Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports for this purpose. When creating youth policy, emphasis should be placed on
eliminating unequal opportunities and possible discrimination and taking into account especially vulnerable groups of
youth. Last but not least, superior strategic documents should also be respected, such as the Czech Republic
2030 Strategy and
the European Youth Strategy 2019-2027.
For a clear and specific definition of the vision, strategic direction and specific steps towards development, it is
important to have a valid strategic document. A new strategic document for the youth sector for the period 2025-2030
was approved by the Government on 21st May 2025, namely National Youth Strategy
2025-2030.
