Non-formal education focuses on the acquisition of life skills and training for active citizenship, and includes both individual and group learning. It is holistic and focuses on learning process and on experiences and activities based on the needs of the participants. A necessary condition for non-formal education is the participation of a professional facilitator, trainer or leader.
These activities are voluntary in most cases and are led mainly by children and youth organisations or other NGO’s, by leisure-based educational facilities, educational agencies, clubs, cultural facilities or other subjects.
