RECOGNITION OF NON-FORMAL LEARNING IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC

Successful development of the sphere of non-formal education inevitably assumes the recognition of such education. The issue of non-formal education in the field of work with children and youth was quite new in the Czech Republic in 2009 and, as such, quite unexplored. Thanks to the project Keys for Life and its cooperation with two other projects (the National Register of Vocational Qualifications and the National Qualifications Framework) the main parameters were set for future successful recognition of qualifications in the sphere of work with children and youth.

Moreover, topics like the sphere of work with children and youth itself, the competences of those who work with children and youth in their leisure time, and the competences of children fostered in non-formal education have become familiar for large employers; also thanks to the signature of the common Memorandum on Supporting the Results of Non-Formal Education in Work with Children and Youth in 2011.

Several years of experience and expertise were also necessary for the preparation of the Personal Competence Portfolio providing the opportunity of having the competences acquired through non-formal education recorded and the option of their future presentation as an appendix of the CV. The purpose of this instrument is not only to show that competences for life are acquired in the area of non-formal education, but also expressing these competences in a language intelligible for both sides.

The recognition of non-formal learning is being supported further by another national project called “K2 – quality and competitiveness in non-formal education” which is implemented by Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and National Institute for Further Education and is financed from ESF and Czech government budget.

The target group consists primarily of the professionals working in schools and leisure-based educational facilities, children and youth NGOs leaders, as well as university and college professionals and institutions providing in-service education.
