MEYS issued the Komenský Declaration on the Russian aggression in Ukraine
Prague, 1 December 2022 - The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports today issued an important document commemorating the legacy of humanist and teacher of nations Jan Amos Komensky and at the same time condemning the Russian aggression in Ukraine, the Komensky Declaration. It is a declaration of the Czech Republic recalling the main values and principles that Komenský stood for, namely humanism, respect for human rights and education available to all, and also calling on democratic countries and their citizens to realise their duty to defend the values on which our civilisation has stood for centuries. Slovenia, Croatia, Lithuania, Estonia, Finland, Netherlands, Portugal and Spain supported the declaration. Countries that join will be added. This text was welcomed by Ukrainian authorities. The text of the Declaration will be presented to EU Member States at today's European Education Summit by the Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Vladimír Balas.
